The scalp has a lot more to contend with these days. In addition to the free radicals from environmental elements such as sun overexposure and pollution. Similarly, the scalp ages much like the rest of the skin. It can lose tone and elasticity, and cell production may decline over time. Since the scalp is skin, it makes sense that many of the cosmeceuticals used to maintain skin health produce similar benefits when applied to the scalp.

The phrase “head spa” is simply the Japanese way of referring to a scalp treatment.
Every establishment will have their own spin on the way they perform a ‘head spa.’ For example, it may be a stand-along scalp treatment performed by an esthetician or may include a shampoo and style afterwards, if being performed in a salon with a Cosmetologist. Generally though, you can expect some variation of treatment to detoxify the scalp, and massage to stimulate circulation and relieve tension.
Most head spas utilize dedicated ingredients and products that target specific scalp problems —whether that’s dandruff, oiliness, irritation, or hair loss.
If you’ve heard of Japanese head spas or Japanese scalp treatments, you’re not alone. This concept originated in Japan years ago and has finally gained worldwide recognition for its physical and therapeutic benefits. It’s a holistic approach to scalp care that goes beyond just aesthetics. It embraces a philosophy of overall well-being and self-care. Japanese head spa treatments are known for their holistic approach and deep clean techniques.
The core concept of a head spa is that a healthy scalp is the foundation for vibrant and resilient hair. However, the benefits go beyond just healthy hair. The deep cleansing of the skin of the scalp is essential for maintaining a healthy scalp. Scalp treatments aim to provide tangible benefits for the scalp, while also promoting overall well-being and a deep sense of relaxation and rejuvenation.
The entire head spa experience honors the connection between the body and mind. It’s a harmonious blend of physical improvement, sensory indulgence, and mental renewal. It’s the perfect treatment for anyone looking to improve the condition of their scalp, but also for those who need a much-needed break from a hectic everyday life.
The scalp facial is a treatment that removes excess build-up such as dirt, dead skin cells, sebum, and product build-up from your scalp. The treatment also includes scalp massage that increases blood flow to the scalp.
The process starts with a consultation that starts by looking at your scalp with a microscope and letting you get a close-up look for yourself on a screen of any flaking, scaly patches, or sebum build-up.
From there, you’ll receive an intensive deep cleansing and detoxing of the scalp, which includes scalp massage—all in a relaxing, spa-like environment. Like your typical facial, we also offer steam therapy as part of the scalp treatment to unclog pores on the scalp.
Head spas are often described as “scalp facials,” and like normal facials, they can be something you do regularly or once in a blue moon to treat yourself. While a single treatment can certainly help with relaxation and give your scalp a thorough deep cleaning, unsurprisingly, we recommend consistency for the best results, especially since the scalp is constantly changing.
We generally recommend every 4 to 6 weeks, which aligns with the average skin cycle for old skin cells to be replaced by new ones.

Yes! However, it is important to consider timing your service appointment. Please do not schedule this service right after your hair color appointment. We use very cleansing and detoxifying products and there is a lot of running hot water and steam involved, so this can cause your color to fade.
A blowout is not included with the Scalp Facial as we are not licensed cosmetologists and do not offer hair styling/cuts. Guests are welcome to dry their own hair with our professional quick-dry hair drier and provided combs/brushes.
